Matt and Jessi have been good friends and mentors of ours for the last few years. We feel absolutely blessed to have them in our lives. It goes without saying that we were beyond excited to find out they were expecting, and I’m even more excited to have been able to capture such a beautiful time in their lives! We visited a few of their favorite places while I was in Raleigh a few weeks ago…
Kevin and Julie’s end-of-fall November 5th wedding was one where I had my eye on the weather forecast everyday for about two weeks leading up to the big day. The wedding was held at one of my favorite venues in the Triangle, The Pavilions at The Angus Barn, and its beautiful grounds beg for as many outdoor photos as possible. We lucked out and had the most perfect weather anyone could have asked for. Kevin and Julie chose a sunset, lakeside ceremony. I doubt there were few places more serene that day as under the expertly decorated arch in front of family and friends all gathered to celebrate the union of this beautiful couple. The reception was a blast, thanks to the ever brilliant aural musings of Hipshack and the heavenly catering and stop-at-nothing-to-please staff of Angus Barn. The night was topped off with sparklers and an exit in a masterfully restored Chevy Bel Air.
A few other notes of interest… Julie designed and made the bridesmaids’ earrings and designed the programs which were then printed on wood veneer. Her earrings and necklace were borrowed from her mom and were a gift from her dad to her mom over 25 years ago. Her pearl bracelet was restrung from one that her grandparents gave her when she was younger, and she added the closure from a necklace her dad gave her. The rings tied in the bouquet are Julie’s parents’. The rhinestone hairpiece and Kevin’s cufflinks are both vintage, circa 1930′s and 1920′s respectively.

Pin ItI love a good styled shoot with great details meticulously thought out and placed precisely, but many times, a simpler shoot where the couple’s love for each other is allowed to shine on its own is more fitting and compelling. (The guys tend to be drawn more to these, too.) Matt and Julia have the kind of affection for each other that can be seen in everything they do. The way they talk to each other, look at each other, even the smallest touches reaffirm over and over how each feels about the other and how much they can’t wait to start their lives together. I’m beyond excited to be shooting their wedding this Spring, but for now, on to the engagement photos…
These were all shot on Fuji Pro 400H with a Mamiya 645AF and a Mamiya-Sekor “C” 80mm f/1.9 and were processed and scanned by Richard Photo Lab.
